dc.description.abstractPertanian berperan penting dalam mendukung ketahanan pangan di Indonesia, namun konversi lahan pertanian menjadi lahan terbangun mengakibatkan penurunan luas lahan pertanian. Penanaman dalam pot di lahan sempit dengan didukung media tanam yang berkualitas untuk memastikan pertumbuhan yang optimal menjadi alternatif masalah tersebut. Salah satu tanaman yang berpotensi dibudidayakan dalam pot adalah bawang merah, yang banyak dikonsumsi sebagai bumbu maupun obat herbal. Ultisol memiliki sebaran yang luas, maka tanah tersebut sangat berpotensi digunakan sebagai salah satu bahan untuk media tanam dalam pot. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi karakteristik fisik (bobot isi, porositas total, dan distribusi pori) serta pengaruhnya terhadap produktivitas bawang merah pada komposisi media yang berbeda (Ultisol, arang sekam, dan kompos). Penelitian ini dilakukan selama 3 bulan dengan 9 perlakukan komposisi media tanam dan setiap perlakuan diulang 3 kali, namun setiap bulan diambil sampel tanah utuh dan bersifat destruktif sehingga total satuan percobaan terdapat 81 sampel dengan menggunakan wadah pot di rumah kaca. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan komposisi media tanam berpengaruh nyata terhadap sifat fisik tanah (bobot isi, porositas total, dan distribusi pori). Pemadatan pada setiap media akibat penurunan bahan organik dan penyiraman harian tanpa drainase yang memadai menyebabkan peningkatan nilai bobot isi dan penurunan porositas total. Hasil panen bawang merah tertinggi diperoleh dari perlakuan T2A4K4 (20% Ultisol, 40% arang sekam, 40% kompos) yang dikarenakan seimbangnya jumlah ruang pori dalam media tersebut, sedangkan hasil terendah ditemukan pada media T0A1K0 (100% arang sekam) dan T0A0K1 (100% kompos) yang memiliki ruang pori sangat tidak seimbang. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya pemilihan komposisi media tanam dalam budidaya bawang merah di lahan terbatas.
dc.description.abstractAgriculture plays a crucial role in supporting food security in Indonesia; however, the conversion of agricultural land into built-up areas has led to a decrease in arable land. Planting in pots in limited spaces, supported by quality growth media to ensure optimal growth, presents an efficient alternative. One of plants that has potential to be planted in potting media is shallots, it is widely used as cooking spice and herbal medicine. Ultisol has a wide distribution so this soil has the potential to be used as a planting medium in pots. This study aimed to identify the physical characteristics (bulk density, total porosity, and soil pore distribution) and their effect on growth and productivity of shallot in different media compositions (Ultisol soil, rice husk charcoal, and compost). The research was conducted three months with 9 treatments growth media composition and each treatment was repeated 3 times, but every month destructive soil sample were taken so the total experimental units is 81 samples using pot in a greenhouse. The results indicated that the composition of planting media significantly affected physical soil properties (bulk density, total porosity, and soil pore distribution). Compaction in each media due to the decline in organic matter and daily watering without adequate drainage led to increased bulk density and decreased total porosity. The highest shallot yield was obtained from treatment T2A4K4 (20% Ultisol, 40% rice husk charcoal, and 40% compost), attributed to the balanced pore space in the media. In contrast, the lowest yields were found in media T0A1K0 (100% rice husk charcoal) and T0A0K1 (100% compost), which exhibited highly imbalanced pore spaces. This study emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate planting media compositions for shallot cultivation in limited areas.
