      Abstract

Spirulina platensis is a filamentous cyanobacterium with a spiral shape and blue-green pigments. Cultivation was carried out using an outdoor inclined plastic column photobioreactor (I-PBR). The experiment aimed to examine the effect of culture illumination on the characteristics of Spirulina platensis. The study utilized a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with different levels of lighting: no paranet (P1), paranet 50% (P2), paranet 70% (P3), and paranet 90% (P4). Illumination levels significantly affect biomass weight, phycocyanin pigment, and the antioxidant activity of spirulina extract and phycocyanin pigment (p<0.05). The biomass weight of treatment P2 (paranet 50%) had higher yields than other treatments. The best chemical characteristics of the crude extract and phycocyanin pigment were obtained in the P4 treatment (paranet 90%).
