      Abstract

Burns are a very significant global health problem. One of them is third-degree burns, which are characterized by long healing time, cannot be healed back to normal, and often leave scars (disabilities). This study aims to create an animal model of third-degree burns using stainless steel metal heat induction. This model is intended to be beneficial for future research on the physiology and healing processes of third-degree burn injuries. This study used five rats, 4 for treatment and one rat as a negative control. Each rat was given stainless steel metal heat induction (using a metal scale rod with a diameter of 1-1.5 cm2) at 90 ± 5 ºC for 15 seconds. After being given wound induction, the rats were sacrificed, and skin samples with burns were taken. The samples were then observed histologically. The data obtained were described descriptively. With the method used in this study, relatively uniform burns were obtained in circles with a flat surface, clear boundaries, and a wound area of 3.8 cm2. Histological observations of burns showed a significant defect coagulative necrosis to the subcutaneous area. In addition, epithelial desquamation, sebaceous gland disintegration, and cutaneous muscle disintegration were found. Collagen fibers and m. Arrector pili were unrecognized. Pathological findings that reached the subcutaneous area indicate that the burn induction method performed resulted in third-degree burns. Therefore, this research method can be used to produce animal models of third-degree burns in a controlled area.
