      Abstract

Palm or kabung is a versatile palm with ecological, social, economic, and very potential to overcome food security problems in Indonesia, especially in Sungkap Village. This study aims to identify community profiles, forms of utilization, local wisdom, and useful plants around palm stands in Sungkap Village. Data was collected using interview methods, participatory observation, and documentation. The results showed that all farmers were male, the majority of whom were 36-45 years old. People use palm to be processed as palm sugar, foodstuffs, beverages, and household furniture. Nira and processed palm sugar are used by the community as ingredients for making traditional food and drinks. Palm farmers in Sungkap Village have local wisdom in determining palm trees that can produce a lot of sap through physical assessment of plants. Acidic sap makes farmers use natural preservatives like ube-ube root to prevent sap from fermenting. Palm farmers in Sungkap Village usually tap palm in mixed gardens known as kalekak. Useful plant species that are commonly found in kelekak include durian, jengkol, mango, mangosteen, pineapple, pokak eggplant, and palm oil.
