Men's facial masculinity is believed to influence female judgments of
attractiveness and mate preference. Numerous studies have explored this
phenomenon, showing variations in preferences for male facial masculinity. Most
research has focused on Western populations, with relatively little attention given
to non-Western cultures. This study explored women’s judgments of male facial
attractiveness in Indonesia. Using a male and female face prototype, male facial
photographs were transformed to create masculine and feminine versions of the
same faces, forming a set of stimuli. A total of 305 women were asked to judge
which version they found more attractive and which they would prefer as a long-term partner. The generalized linear mixed model (GLMM) was used to assess the
influence of age, income, education level, and partnership status on their judgments.
The results revealed that Indonesian women did not demonstrate a significant
preference for either masculine or feminine faces when evaluating facial
attractiveness. However, more masculine faces were preferred when evaluating
potential long-term partners. Additionally, older women tended to perceive
masculine male faces as more attractive. No significant effects of income, education
level, or partnership status on attractiveness judgments were observed in
attractiveness judgments. Maskulinitas wajah laki-laki diyakini mempengaruhi penilaian daya tarik
wajah.
