      Variasi Radial SIfat FIsis dan Karakteristik Permukaan Kayu Pinus (Pinus merkusii)

      Abstract
      Penelitian ini menjelaskan variasi sifat fisis dan karakteristik permukaan kayu pinus dari empulur ke kulit yang berguna untuk penggunaan pelapisan cat. Uji fisis yang dilakukan berupa kadar air dan kerapatan. Karakteristik permukaan yang diuji berupa kekasaran permukaan, energi bebas permukaan (surface free energy/SFE), dan keterbasahan. Kadar air kayu pinus mengalami peningkatan dari empulur ke kulit dengan nilai rata-rata 12,43% pada pohon A dan 12,22% pada pohon B. Kerapatan kayu pinus mengalami peningkatan dari empulur ke kulit dengan nilai rata-ratanya 0,61 g/cm3 pada pohon A dan 0,60 g/cm3 pada pohon B. Nilai rata-rata kekasaran permukaan kayu pinus dari empulur ke kulit pada pohon A dan pohon B secara berturut-turut yaitu 3,02 µm dan 2,70 µm. Nilai rata-rata SFE kayu pinus dari empulur ke kulit pada pohon A dan pohon B secara berturut-turut yaitu 39,60 mJ/m2 dan 39,88 mJ/m2. Nilai K rata-rata kayu pinus dari empulur ke kulit pada pohon A dan pohon B secara berturut-turut yaitu 0,043 dan 0,045. Bagian kayu pinus yang baik digunakan untuk finishing adalah bagian yang berada di dekat kulit karena memiliki nilai keterbasahan dan energi bebas permukaan yang tinggi sehingga baik untuk pelapisan cat.
       
      This study describes the variation of physical properties and surface characteristics of pine wood from pith to bark which is useful for the use of paint coating. Physical properties studied consist of wood moisture content and density. The surface characteristics tested are surface roughness, surface-free energy (SFE), and wettability. The moisture content of pine wood increased from pith to bark with an average value of 12.43% in tree A and 12.22% in tree B. The density of pine wood increased from pith to bark with an average value of 0.61 g/cm3 in tree A and 0.60 g/cm3 in tree B. The average value of surface roughness of pine wood from pith to bark in tree A and tree B was 3.02 µm and 2.70 µm respectively. The average SFE value of pine wood from pith to bark in tree A and tree B was 39.60 mJ/m2 and 39.88 mJ/m2 respectively. The average K value of pine wood from pith to bark on tree A and tree B was 0.043 and 0.045 respectively. A good pine wood part used for finishing is the part that is near the bark because it has a high wettability and surface-free energy values so it is good for paint coating.
