      Abstract

Mud crab (Scylla serrata) is a prospective commodity in local and international markets, but the transportation technique for crab seeds has not been done properly, which has an impact on stress levels and survival rate. This study aims to analyze the production performance and profitability of mud crab aquaculture with a natural seed-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) apartment system. This study used a factorial complete randomized design with two factors, namely filler media (without straw and with straw) and transportation time (4 hours, 8 hours, and 12 hours). The results showed that the use of straw media for 4 hours produced the best results, namely, a survival rate of 70.83%, a profit of Rp17.778.625 and an R/C value of 1.33. The straw media was effective in maintaining the transportation temperature in a short duration (4 hours), but was not significant for longer durations (8 and 12 hours). Therefore, it is recommended that dry system transportation of mud crab seeds be carried out with the addition of straw media and a maximum transportation duration of 4 hours to obtain optimal profitability and survival.
