      Abstract

Food security is an important issue in achieving social welfare, as it determines the economic, social and political stability of a country. Food availability that is less than the demand can create economic instability. Various social and political upheavals can also occur if food security is compromised. The reduction of poverty and food insecurity in Indonesia in the last 10 years or so has been progressing quite well. This reduction in poverty still leaves a substantial problem in the form of food insecurity. This study aims to analyze the effect of poverty and other determinants on food security in Indonesia. The analysis method used is panel data regression using the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach with the object of research in the form of 34 provinces in Indonesia for the period 2019-2023. The results of this study indicate that the average length of schooling, average calorie consumption per capita per day and the Covid-19 pandemic have an effect in increasing the food security index. Meanwhile, the percentage of poor people and the percentage of households according to the head of the household who works and the region of residence have an effect in reducing the food security index.
