      Abstract

Yellowtail is an economically important reef fish targeted in the Kepulauan Seribu's water. The high demand has promoted fishing intensity, thus impacting the catch target and ecosystem function, particularly the trophic level of fish resources. This study aims to describe the yellowtail fishing unit in the study area and analyze the impact of fishing on target fish and trophic level as a parameter of ecosystem function. The study's primary data consisted of the length and weight of target fish, fishing unit, and non-target fish species and biomass. The results showed that the yellowtail fishing unit was mainly traps and muroami fishing gears. The growth pattern of the yellowtail indicated a negative allometric. Yellowtail caught by trap has a proportion of 70.41% allowable catch size, while muroami catches yellowtail of 40.22% allowable catch size. The composition of the catch is dominated by omnivorous fish (TL3) and carnivores (TL4), while the TL5 or top predator group was also caught with a relatively small portion. By considering the balance of ecosystem functions, fisheries management needs to be implemented to achieve sustainable utilization of fish resources.
