dc.description.abstractMikroplastik merupakan salah satu isu global yang dihadapi saat ini sedangkan penelitian terkait persebaran mikroplastik di pusat upwelling belum banyak diteliti. Sementara itu, Perairan Banggai merupakan salah satu perairan yang mengalami upwelling. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi fenomena upwelling, karakteristik mikroplastik, dan menganalisis persebaran Mikroplastik di pusat upwelling Perairan Banggai. Mikroplastik diperoleh dari sampel air permukaan laut dan bagian dari ekspedisi "Banggai Upwelling Dynamics Ecosystem and Experiment" (BUDEE). Sampel kemudian diidentifikasi menggunakan mikroskop dan RAMAN Spektrometer dan dianalisa kelimpahan mikroplastik. Fenomena upwelling diidentifikasi menggunakan data kondisi perairan dan dilakukan validasi data. Analisa data yang dilakukan, yaitu kelimpahan mikroplastik, pusat upwelling, dan SOI. Perairan Banggai bagian timur laut merupakan pusat upwelling kategori lemah dipengaruhi oleh fenomena La Niňa. Karakteristik mikroplastik yang ditemukan, yaitu rata-rata mikroplastik 6.944±3.706 partikel/m³ dengan rata-rata tertinggi berada di Stasiun 13 sebesar 13.875 partikel/m³. Mikroplastik yang paling banyak ditemukan berbentuk fragmen (67%), berwarna kuning (45%), dan berukuran 300−500 μm (44%). Analisis polimer mikroplastik menunjukkan polyethylene terephthalate (PET) pada bentuk fiber. Pusat upwelling yang berada di timur laut Perairan Banggai, tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kelimpahan mikroplastik. Akan tetapi, kelimpahan tersebut dipengaruhi oleh arus yang bergerak dari Laut Banda menuju Laut Maluku
dc.description.abstractMicroplastics are a global issue, yet research on their distribution in upwelling centers remains limited. The Banggai Waters is one such area experiencing upwelling. This study aims to identify the upwelling phenomenon, characterize microplastics, and analyze their distribution in the Banggai Waters' upwelling center. Microplastics were collected from surface seawater samples as part of the "Banggai Upwelling Dynamics Ecosystem and Experiment" (BUDEE) expedition. Samples were identified using a microscope and RAMAN Spectrometer, and microplastic abundance was analyzed. Upwelling was identified using ocean condition data and validated. Data analysis included microplastic abundance, upwelling center, and SOI. The northeastern Banggai Waters is a weak upwelling center influenced by La Niña. Microplastic characteristics found include an average of 6.944±3.706 particles/m³, with the highest at Station 13 (13.875 particles/m³). Most microplastics were fragments (67%), yellow (45%), and sized 300−500 μm (44%). Polymer analysis showed polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in fiber form. The upwelling center in northeastern Banggai Waters does not significantly affect microplastic abundance, which is influenced by currents moving from the Banda Sea to the Maluku Sea.
