      Abstract

The discrepancy between the demand and supply of solid wood promotes the use of bamboo as an alternative material that can be combined with wood. On the other hand, the design and research of I-joist beams using a combination of wood and bamboo has not yet been done. Therefore, the research focuses on designing I-Joist bands using siam bamboo and acacia wood by providing a treatment of a three-factor combination, namely the pattern of composition (total and double), the presence of skin (integral skin and scaly ends), and penetration depth (5 mm and 10 mm) on the core part (web) to improve its physical characteristics as well as its mechanical characteristics. Based on the results of the research carried out the structure of the I-Joist with physical and mechanical properties is best at the combination double pattern with peeled leather and depth of penetrating the web into the flange (wings) 10 mm. The pattern has characteristics such as water content values 12,3%, solid density 0,56 g.cm-3, column density 0,59 g. cm-3, and strong pressure 99,59 kgf.cm-2 with little damage. These values are higher when compared to I-joist research with materials other than bamboo and acacia wood.
