Chilli is a widely cultivated horticultural commodity because it has high economic value. People generally consume chilli species Capsicum annuum L., Capsicum chinense Jacq. and Capsicum frutescens L. In addition to these three species, there are two chilli species that have not been widely cultivated, namely Capsicum baccatum and Capsicum pubescens. Capsicum baccatum is known as a chilli species with antioxidant content, beta carotene, vitamin C and resistance to bacterial wilt. The development of Capsicum baccatum has not been widely carried out in Indonesia so that plant breeding efforts are needed to assemble superior varieties of chilli of this species. Plant breeding programmes require information on the correlation between characters to make the selection process effective and efficient. This study consisted of two experiments conducted in two environments: rainy and dry seasons. The first experiment was conducted to evaluate the diversity of qualitative and quantitative characters of 10 genotypes of chilli C. baccatum in two different environments. The experiment was conducted during the rainy and dry seasons from November 2022 to November 2023 at the Sinar Sari Natural Housing Experimental Farm in Bogor. The experiment used a completely randomised complete group design (RKLT) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was chilli genotypes consisting of 10 test genotypes and 2 comparators. The second factor is the environment which consists of rainy and dry seasons. The tested chilli genotypes were divided into 3 groups based on qualitative characters, with an unmatched value of 0.3 or 30%. Genotype G1 had the highest median value of leaf width, colouration, and soluble solids characters compared to other genotypes in both environments. On the other hand, genotype G5 had higher mean values for fruit thickness and length characters. Meanwhile, the chilli genotype with the highest vitamin C content was G2. The second experiment was conducted to evaluate the heritability of growth and yield characters of chilli genotypes in both environments. The aim was to obtain C. baccatum chilli strains that have high spiciness and vitamin C characteristics. The experiment was conducted in the same two environments as the first experiment. This experiment used a two-factor completely randomised complete group design (RKLT) with three replications. The first and second factors were the same as the first experiment. The coefficient of genotypic diversity and coefficient of phenotypic diversity ranged from 1.18-63.79% and 1.41-65.12%, respectively, falling into the low to high category. The estimated values of broad sense heritability in the two environments ranged from 60.17-99.04%. The value of genotype variance was higher than the environmental variance. The results of organoleptic scoville analysis showed that G4 had a higher level of spiciness than other genotypes, including its two parents.
