      Abstract

Tile is a crucial element in the building structure, acting as a cover for the roof of the house. The use of roof tiles with a heavy mass can endanger human safety during an earthquake. Therefore, one of the efforts to improve safety is to consider the roof tile material used. The lightweight roof tile innovation that is currently being developed is composite roof tile. Composite roof tiles from natural fibers have properties that are lightweight, strong, rust resistant, tropical weather resistant and environmentally friendly. The use of roof tiles as exterior materials and exposed outdoors has the potential to absorb air pollutants. Polluted air in Indonesia requires special attention, one of which is through the provision of adsorbents to minimize pollutants. A study has been conducted by analyzing the characteristics of composite roof tiles from empty palm fruit bunches-carbon molasses-adhesive citric acid modified ZnO. The samples used were particle boards made to a size of 30 x 30 cm. The tests carried out include analysis of the characteristics of physical and mechanical properties, as well as absorbance tests.
