      Abstract

One of the bacteria that attacks shrimp is the bacteria V. parahaemolyticus which can cause high mortality rates in cultivated shrimp. Efforts can be made to prevent vibriosis in vaname shrimp by providing natural ingredients as immunostimulants, namely Gracilaria verrucosa. This study aims to test the effect of using Gracilaria verrucosa seaweed extract in feed to increase the immune response of vaname shrimp infected by the bacteria V. parahaemolyticus. The study used a completely randomized design with five treatments and four replications, namely K- (no extract), K (no extract V.parahaemolyticus infection), P1 (1 ml/kg feed V.parahaemolyticus infection), P2 (3 ml/ kg feed V.parahaemolyticus infection), and P3 (5 ml/kg feed V.parahaemolyticus infection). The parameters observed consisted of total haemocyte count, phagocytic activity, respiratory burst, phenoloxydase activity, survival, mortality, daily growth rate, relative percent survival, feed conversion ratio, and hepatopancreatic histopathology. The results of this study showed that the immune response (THC, AF, RB, and PO) of shrimp fed the extract increased compared to those treated with K or K-. Increased immune response and highest survival rate in P3 treatment (5ml/kg extract in feed).
