      Abstract

Drift gillnet boats sized 5-10 GT at the Nusantara Fishing Port (PPN) Tanjungpandan use of coolboxes placed on the deck as a fish storage, which can potentially reduce mobility space for the crew. Therefore, efforts are needed to design an integrated fish hold to minimize the use of coolboxes. The aim of this research is to determine the required volume of fish hold based on the catch data obtained, create a redesigned fish hold integrated with the existing design and construction of the vessel, and determine the quality values of static stability for each vessel condition. Data collection was carried out using purposive sampling. The data were obtained through direct observation, interviews with fishermen and port officials. The result indicates that the maximum catch of the drift gillnet vessel is 1.863 kg, which can be accommodated in vessel’s fish hold with a minimum volume of 6.52 m3. The redesigned fish hold created is a portable unit with a shape conforming to the vessel's hull. In the stability test, the redesigned boat has better stability both in an empty and full load conditions.
