      Abstract

The total flavonoids, phenolics and antioxidant capacity in Portulaca oleracea L plants mutated with EMS are unknown. This study aimed to determine the phytochemical characteristics and antioxidant capacity in EMS-induced Portulaca oleracea L with optimum concentration and soaking time. Purslane was extracted by Microwave Assisted Extraction method and 96% methanol solvent. Total phenolic content was calculated by Folin-Ciocalteu method, total flavonoid content by AlCl3 method, and antioxidant capacity by DPPH and FRAP methods. The highest total phenolic content was found in the sample with EMS concentration 750 and immersion time 4 hours 0.7336 mg GAE/g WW. The highest total flavonoid content was found in the sample with an EMS concentration of 750 and an immersion time of 8 hours 2.127 mg QE/g WW.
