      Abstract

Chickens are one of the most widely consumed sources of animal protein in society which made them a promising livestock prospect. However, chicken farming also faces the threat of Pasteurella multocida serotype A infections as the most frequent agent causing fowl cholera. The misuse of antibiotics in poultry farms often increases the risk of antibiotic resistance. This study aimed to identify Pasteurella multocida from chickens and test their resistance to various antibiotics. The study began with the identification of isolates. The isolates were also identified using conventional PCR (polymerase chain reaction). The colony were then tested for antibiotic resistance using the disk diffusion method. The identification results showed that 13 samples were Pasteurella multocida and 9 of them were serotype A. The test results showed that all isolates were resistant to cefotaxime, and sensitive to tetracycline, amoxicillin, enrofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole, lincomycin, and ciprofloxacin. This study concluded that 9 Pasteurella multocida isolates were serotype A with 2 isolates showing a multiresistance pattern.
