      Abstract

Helminthiasis is a health concern for deer. Worm infections in deer can cause various losses such as stunted growth, reproductive disorders and death. Data related to the prevalence of helminthiasis is important for health management and disease control in deer so as to increase deer productivity. This study aimed to identify the types of worms, and measure the prevalence of helminthiasis in deer around IPB Dramaga. This study used a total of 31 deer feces samples. Tests conducted in this study include flotation test, McMaster test, multilevel filtration test and identification of worm species. The results of this study showed that the prevalence of helminthiasis in deer around IPB Dramaga was 32.26% and the types of worms that infected them came from the nematode class, namely Trichuris sp. and Trichostrongylus sp. A total of 6 samples showed positive results of the McMaster test with each number of eggs found in the range of 1–499 eggs per gram of feces (EPG) so that the severity of infection was classified as mild. Deworming programs and good husbandry management need to be implemented to avoid an increase in the incidence of helminthiasis in deer.
