      Analysis of urine mineral Levels in Nephrolithiasis Animal Model That Treatment by Avocado and Cat Whiskers Leaf Extract

      Abstract
      Avocado plants (Persea americana Mill.) and cat whisker plants (Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq) are among many of the herbal plants empirically believed to prevent kidney stone problems. This study was aimed to determine the effect of avocado leaf extract and cat whisker extract on calcium levels and magnesium levels in urine. Forty two male white rats Sprague Dawley strains were used in this study. The rats were then divided into 7 groups, each group consisting of 5 rats. The groups were P1 (normal control), P2 (negative control), P3 (positive control), P4 (avocado leaf extract), P5 (cat whiskers leaf extract), P6 (combinations of avocado leaf extract 300 mg/kgBB and cat whiskers plant extract 250 mg/kgBB), and P7 (combination of avocado leaf extract 600 mg/kgBB and cat whiskers plant extract 500 mg/kgBB). This treatment was performed for 28 days and urine analysis was performed on the 14 days and 26 days using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). This result showed that extract combination in single doses (P6) and extract combination in larger doses (P7) gave the best decay as indicated by highly decreasing in the mean value of calcium 77% and 83% followed by descreasing in the mean value of magnesium 84% and 71%. The combination of extracts have activities that were able to prevent on urine calcium oxalate saturation and reduce the possibility of urine crystal formation.
