      Abstract
Catfish (Clarias spp.) is one type of freshwater that is popularly cultivated and consumed by the public. One of the catfish behaviors that are cannibalistic requires cultivators to separates small fish from large ones to maintain production efficiency from the seedling phase to adulthood. This research is aimed at developing the instrumentation of catfish seedling sorting based on size. The research phase consists of designing and manufacturing instrument, as well as laboratory-scale trials. Catfish as a research object uses eight sizes interval 2-3 cm, 3-4 cm, 4-5 cm, 5-6 cm, 6-7 cm, 7-8 cm, 8-9 cm, and 9-10 cm. Catfish seed separator instruments in the form of 150 cm x 50 cm x 65 cm dimensions that widen from the upstream (input) to downstream (output) made of wood, stainless steel, aluminum pipe, polylactid acid (PLA), and PVC pipes. The mechanism of working of the instrument utilizes the principle of oblique plane, so the use of the tool begins by pouring seedlings slowly upstream, utilizing the force of gravity, then the catfish will automatically separate based on size. The average success value of this tool is 87%, with an error of 13%. The efficiency of the sorting process reaches 30% with a grading capacity of 4,500-6,000 seedlings / hour, compared to using manual techniques.
