<description>Application of Electrical Properties to Differentiate Lard from Tallow and Palm Oil
Sucipto; T. Djatna; Irzaman; Tun Tedja I; A. M. Fauzi
This study aimed to differentiate lard from tallow and palm oil based on its electrical properties, namely conductance, impedance and capacitance. These properties were measured at spectra frequencies of 4.20 to 5.00 MHz in room temperature (26-27 °C). Statistic multivariate that consist on principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) were used to evaluate the data. The results showed that lard and tallow can be differentiated using whole parameters electrical properties of materials. On the other hand, lard and palm oil can only be differentiated using part of the material electrical properties. Good performance of differentiation process was obtained using PCA model at 4.91 to 4.98 MHz. The first two components of PCA, which was derived from conductance, impedance and capacitance, contributed more than 90% of the total variances. CA showed that lard and tallow are different groups based on the Euclidean distance of each electrical properties. This technique can be potentially developed as an electrical sensor for differentiation lard to tallow and palm oil.

A total of 134 Pesisir cattle were genotyped for growth hormone (GH) gene by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The genotype and allele frequencies of the GH Mspl and GH AluI Pesisir cattle were determined. The GH Mspl gene frequencies for the C and T allele were 0.209 and 0.791 respectively, while GH AluI gene frequencies for the L and V allele were 0.992 and 0.008 respectively. The chi-square analysis indicated that this population is not in Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium status. Expected heterozygosis value (He) for GH Mspl and GH AluI were 0.3306±0.0266 and 0.0149±0.0073 respectively. The PCR-RFLP AluI marker. This finding showed that GH Mspl T allele was favorable as a GH marker for Bos indicus breeds.

Stock of starter culture for fennented sausages in Indonesia are very limited. The commercial starter cultures must be imported from Europe, so this price is very expensive and the fennented sausages product's in Bali can't reach. The impact of this condition, the quality fennented sausage in Indonesia is low. The aim of this research was to analyze dried starter culture using microbial combinations at different vegetative materials and different methods of drying. Vegetative materials were skim milk and skim milk added sucrose. Method of drying are spray drying and freeze drying. The result of this research were freeze drying was better than spray drying. Skim milk added sucrose was better than skim milk. The best viability is starter culture with skim milk added sucrose which is made by freeze drying. This viability was 1,1 x 1010 CFU/ml.

<title>Pengaruh superovulasi terhadap produksi anak babi (Effect of Superovulation on Piglet Production)</title>
<link>http://repository.ipb.ac.id/handle/123456789/56512</link>
<description>Pengaruh superovulasi terhadap produksi anak babi (Effect of Superovulation on Piglet Production)
Mege, Revolson Alexius
Sixty gilts with acerage body weight of 107.80 + 5.10 kg were used in an experiment to study the use of PMSG and hCG as superovulation agent to increase piglet production. In this experiment 60 gilts were assigned into a completely randomized design with 4 treatments of superovulation with dose level 0,600, 1200 and 1800 IU/gilt. Injections were conducted 3 days before estrus. During gestation, gilts were placed in single pigpen, and maintained to term. The parameters were birth weight, preweaning growth and mortality. The result showed that superovulation dose levels of 600 and 1200 IU/gilt increased the piglet birth weight, litter size, preweaning growth and piglet production at 90 days. It is concluded that superovulation with dose levels of 600 to 1200 IU can improve productivity.
