Pengaruh Densifikasi terhadap Sifat Fisis dan Sifat Mekanis Kayu Jati (Tectona grandis L.f.) Cepat Tumbuh
Abstract
Densification or compression is one of many efforts could be employed to improve or modify wood quality. Through simple densification process applied i.e. 50% of compression level, and 20 MPa of pressure at 150 ⁰C it was shown that physical and mechanical properties of 5 year-old of fast growing teak could be improved well. Compared to those of the control wood, the properties of densified wood are much better. Its moisture content is 50.82% reduced; while the others are increased vary. Wood density is increased up to 67.92%, specific gravity increased 82.22%, MOE increased 62%, MOR increased 72%, compression strength parallel to the grain increased 77%, and wood hardness increased 107% (the highest). The densified of teak wood produced is classified to the strength class of II. The paired sample T-test result between control- and treated wood shows that all properties studied are different from each other at confidence interval of 95%.
