Forest existence in Indonesia is vulnerable due to a disturbance, particularly forest fire. One of the causes of forest and land fire is the weather condition which is so fierce in the drought season. South Sumatera is an area with high vulnerability of forest fire, it is included into three provinces with the highest forest fire occurrence in Indonesia. This research aim to analize the influence of precipitation toward the forest and land fire occurrences at South Sumatera province. The result shows that the drought season in South Sumatera occur from July until September, with the peak season at August. The number of hotspot increase between May until October with peak of forest fire occurrence at September, right after the peak of drought season at August. It is clearly showed that daily and 10-daily mean of daily precipitation could be used to explain forest fire occurences. The result of this research emphasize that forest fire prevention in South Sumatera strongly suggested to be started at May when the number of precipitation decrease drastically and the number of hotspot increaseen
