dc.description.abstractDragon’s blood Daemonorops sp. has been used as traditional medicines and natural dyes. However, dragon’s bloods of Dracaena sp. and Croton sp. are well-known to have many pharmacological activities in some other countries, including anticancer. This research aimed to determine the toxicity of the extract related to its potential as anticancer and to determine dracorhodin fraction as the main anthocyanin compound in dragon’s blood. The experiment involved extraction, partition, fractionation, and brine shrimp lethality test. The LC50 value of methanol and ethyl acetate extracts were 70 and 570 ppm, respectively. Fractionation of the methanol extract by using column chromatography with gradient elution with n-hexane and ethyl acetate provided 6 fractions. Ultraviolet-visible spectrum of the fraction 6 showed a maximum absorbance at 467 nm, lying in the range of anthocyanin maximum wavelength. Identification by using gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer proved that the presumed dracorhodin existed in this fraction, at 22.45 minutes retention time and with 4.30% abundance.en
