Performance and Nutrien Digestibility in Male Garut Breed Sheep Offered Diet Containing Different Chromium Level and Cation-Anion Balance in Hot Stress

Abstract
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the nutrient digestibility of ration with different level of chromim and Dietary Cation-Anion Balance (DCAB) in male Garut breed sheep. Twenty four sheep of 1.5 years old and 29.98 ± 4.01 kg of body weight were grouped into 6 weight catagories and alocated into four experimental rations in a Randomized Block Design. The experimental ration were: 1) R0 = DCAB of +14 without Cr, 2) R1 = DCAB of +14 with 3 ppm Cr, 3) R2 = DCAB of 0 without Cr, 4) R3 = DCAB of 0 with 3 ppm Cr. There was no different in digestibility of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CF), crude fat (CF), and crude fibre (CFr). Rations of R0, R1, R2, and R3 had DM digestibility of 61.44 %, 61.22%, 62.32%, and 60.16%; crude protein (CP) digestibility of 60.89%, 60.36%, 61.73%, and 57.51%; crude fat (CF) digestibility of 96.61%, 94.62%, 94.14%, and 93.85%; crude fiber (CFr) digestibility of 25.27%, 23.17%, 25.99%, and 21.06%, respectively. The result indicated that dietary Cr level and DCAB value had no effect on nutrient digestibility. But there is a tendency that ransum NKAR 0 with Cr suplementasi can maintain physiological conditions Garut sheep while hot stress. Performan merupakan aspek penting dalam menilai keberhasilan peternakan. Namun performan yang baik harus didukung kondisi fisiologis ternak yang baik. Dengan demikian cekaman lingkungan merupakan pengaruh paling nyata pada ternak, baik terhadap aspek konsumsi hingga aspek produksi. Kondisi cekaman panas akan mengganggu palatabilitas, daya cerna pakan, dan lebih jauh dapat menurunkan performan ternak. Dengan demikian upaya yang perlu dilakukan yaitu dengan memperbaiki aspek nutrisi. Pemberian ransum dengan kromium organik dan neraca kation-anion ransum (NKAR) berbeda diharapkan dapat menekan dampak cekaman panas. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui tingkat konsumsi, palatabilitas, pertumbuhan bobot badan, dan kecernaan nutrien pada domba Garut jantan.
