This experiment was conducted on a Latosol at the IPB experimental station, Darmaga, Bogor; from May through August 1981. Population of corn used as a main plot and time of planting soybean was used as a sub-plot. Yields of soybean were decreased by 67% and 93%; 69% and 94% when soybean was planted 10 and 20 days after corn compared to soybean and corn planted at the same time (779 kg/ha and 956 kg/ha.) Increasing population of corn from 40 000 to 80 000 plants per hectare did not show significant dlfference on the yield of soybean nor corn. From the yield components, only the number of filled pods per plants wa~ significantly affected by time of planting soybean while the seed index was not. Except for the seed index the yield components of corn did not show significant differences. The data showed that the highest yield per hectare was from corn and soybean planted at the same time at the corn population of 40 000 plants per hectare.en
