The success of private forest can’t be separated from the contribution of various parties. The research objectives were to analyze the institution of private forest, to analyze stakeholder’s involvement, to analyze the processes and outcomes of participatory extension, and to formulate institution development strategy of participatory extension. The method used is a case study by which data collection was conducted by interview, observation, FGD, and documentation study. Poverty caused by land aridity awakened local leaders to realize the need for change. Observation of teak and mahagony plants that were able to survive in Selopuro made them to invite the neighbors to planting timber in their land. The invitation was rejected by the people so the leaders built a demplot with timber plants to show the public that timber plants were suited to the condition of Selopuro. Finally, people realized that their leaders were correct and people began to plant timber plants. Government, NGOs, foundations, and donor agencies also facilitated the community to achieve the expected change. The role of the parties run was different but with the same goal of helping people to help themselves. One of the impacts of participatory forestry extension is the improvement of community welfare.en
