| dc.description.abstract | The aim of this research is to seek information of race horse training in Pulo Mas, East Jakarta, before a race horse admitted the Indonesian Derby race. There were 21 well trained race horses which is used in this study and 9 horse trainer. The observation and questionnaire method were used in data collection. The study shows that the race horse training is divided into three activities namely walk, trot and canter. The daily schedule of horse training in Pulo Mas are as follows : Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday are for trot and walk in the morning, and only walk in the evening. Then Wednesday and Saturday, the schedule is canter and walk in the morning and only walk in the evening. The result of the research indicates that there were differences method or type of race horse training a week before the Indonesian Derby race, depending on each trainer. The changes was only for horse training schedule which is canter. First type, the schedule of canter was changed on Tuesday and Friday and the second type was changed on Tuesday and Thursday. Most of the horses who got the third one position on their class were trained with the second type of change. Indonesian Derby Race has two kind of race. First race is called qualification and then final race. And the winners in Indonesian Derby is the horses which had a fitness. Although the most important thing in this study on training and fitness of horses, it is also important to know that the key success does largely depend on good stable management. A healthy horse will be able to cope far better with rigours of training. Good stable management encompasses feeding, stable care, jockey, and a carefully planned programme that prepares the horses for its fitness.
