dc.description.abstractJohn Naisbitt one of the well-known futurist have predicted 3 (three) industrial services which will take the control of this planet, which are telecommunication, transportation dan tourism. One of the oceanic and coastal region that possible potential to be developed as one of the oceanic ecotourism are Rempang and Galang Island. The main objective of this research is: (1) to evaluate and to determine the suitability of the potential of its natural resources in Rempang and Galang Island; (2) to determine the support of the coastal region in Rempang and Galang Island for ecotourism; (3) to determine the planning of the coastal region of Rempang and Galang Island, Sub District of Galang, Batam City in the development of ecotourism. Based on the suitability analysis using standard criteria of the operation area and the beauty of its natural resources (ADO-ODTWA) which will be implement using the instrument criteria of judgement and development therefore Rempang and Galang Island especially the tourism resort such as Melayu Beach, Mawar Beach, Coastal region of Sembulang village, Vietnamese Camp Village, and Melur Beach are suitable to be developed as an ecotourism area, and Vietnamese Camp Village as the priority. Based on the support analysis, the length of the sea shore as the limitation factor, the broad area for accomodation and the need of clean water, the capacity of the tourists it self until today is still in a normal condition and a standard which has not overload the present capacity for each of the tourism resort. Tourists who visited Rempang and Galang Island were dominated by local tourists from Batam (80.6%) and they look very satisfied (83.9%) . The population of Rempang and Galang Island dominated (50%) by age between 21-30 years old and they are mostly a Moslem people (66.7%) with a education background from elementary school. Mostly of them are a business man with a beside job as a farmer and fisherman. Based on the SWOT Analisyst, five (5) strategic plan of the ecotourism development of Rempang and Galang Island such as (1) using the beauty of its natural resources Rempang and Galang island to increase the local income; (2) inviting non-government investors; (3) complete the ecotourism instrument (4) impovement of transportation facilities and (5) to plan-out ethical codes of ecotourism in Rempang and Galang Island to prevent destruction of the natural resources.id
