<description>Modifikasi Suhu Tanah untuk Kesesuaian Tumbuh Tanaman Soba (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) di Daerah lklim Tropika Basah

Soil temperature modification for growth adaptability of buckwheat (Fagopyum esculentum Moench) in human tropics

Fibrianty

Buckwheat ios a subtropical crop which produces flour, it can be grown well in tropical region at upland but lowland wich has higher air temperature the growing is suppressed with lower yield. An attempt has been done to modify soil temperature buckwheat cultivation and to analyze the influece of different soil temperature pattern to the root growth and the yield of buckwheat. The experiment was conducter during April-Juy, 2003 at Ciawi, Bogor district which locsted at 400 m above sea level. The Split Plot Design with three replications was employed with the main plot was two population densities, viz no mulch (M0), straw mulch (M1), and a sheet of transparent plastic (M2). Two cultivars of buckwheat, viz Kitawasesoba (V1) and Hitachi Akisoba (V2) were planted in sequence. The results showed that the soil temperature under M2 always the highest, while the lowest was under M0 in the morning and under M1 during noon and afternoon. There were no interaction between popupation densities and mulch to the tield. The straw mulch of M1 produced the highest yield of 2.60 ton ha(-1) and 3.42 ton ha(-1) for Kitawasesoba and Hitachi Akisoba, respectively.

Clubroot is the most destructive disease on crucifers in Indonesia. The&#13;
existing control measures, include biological control do not provide satisfactory&#13;
result. The objective of the study was to explore endophytic fungi of grasses,&#13;
sedge, and bamboo rhizosperic soils, which can suppress clubroot disease caused&#13;
by Plasmodiophora brassicae Wor. in broccoli. This research consisted of two&#13;
main parts: (1) Exploration of root endophytic fungus from grass, sedge, and&#13;
bamboo rhizosperic soils, (2) Biological control clubroot with root endophytic&#13;
fungus isolates of grass, sedge, and bamboo rhizosperic soils. There were six&#13;
species of endophytic fungi examined in this study, e.g Fusarium oxysporum, F.&#13;
solani, Nigrospora sp., Curvularia lunata, Chaetomium globosum and&#13;
Paecilomyces sp. which successfully colonized broccoli root endophytically. Two&#13;
endophytic fungi Chaetomium globosum and Curvularia lunata suppressed&#13;
clubroot disease significantly and increased the growth of broccoli. Application&#13;
of the biocontrol agents by seed coating could increase the antagonistic effect of&#13;
the biocontrol compared with the application by propagule suspension.
